As the official web of Peru, PromPeru says, Peru is one of the world’s most varied countries. It is a multicultural nation, filled with traditions, unique gastronomy, and vast nature reserves. It is home to 12 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 84 of the planet’s 117 life zones. Peru is situated in the western part of South America and shares borders with Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile. Its enormous territory, covering more than 1.2 million square kilometers, is composed of three regions: Coast, Highlands, and Jungle. Its current population exceeds 31.5 million inhabitants.

Spanish is the official language of Peru; however, 47 indigenous languages are also spoken in the country, including Quechua and Aymara.
Peruvian territory was home to several cultures during the ancient and medieval periods, and has one of the longest histories of civilization of any country, tracing its heritage back to the 10th millennium BCE. Notable pre-colonial cultures and civilizations include the Caral-Supe civilization (the earliest civilization in the Americas and considered one of the cradles of civilization,) the Nazca culture, the Wari and Tiwanaku empires, the Kingdom of Cusco, and the Inca Empire, the largest known state in the pre-Columbian Americas.

The country is divided into three regions: Costa (Coast), Sierra (Highlands), and Selva (jungle). Although this simple division reflects the overall appearance of Peru’s geography, the reality is much richer and more complex: in Peru, nature appears to take particular characteristics that make their massive mountains, plains, jungles, and valleys into unique habitats. An extraordinary variety of ecosystems houses the most diverse plants and animals.
Now, knowing a little bit about this amazing country, it is important to mention the huge variety of places to visit, such as the coast, highlands,s or jungle. Starting with the Ocean Pacific coast, is Lima, the capital of the country. It is the country’s commercial and industrial center. Lima, known as the “City of the Kings”, according to historians, is so called because the date of its foundation coincides with the month of the descent of the Magi, also known as “Lima the Gray”, due to the gray color of its sky. The city forms a modern oasis, surrounded by the Peruvian coastal desert. The core of old Lima, delineated by Spanish colonists in the 16th century and partly enclosed by defensive walls in the 17th, retains its checkerboard street pattern.
The former residential colonial zone of central Lima has spacious mansions that belong to aristocratic families, some of them, are now museums. Also, there are lots of beautiful churches as most of the Peruvian people are Catholics. The city also counts modern, bohemian, and residential areas. But what stands out most in Lima and the rest of Peru, is its world-famous cuisine, one of the best in the world. Lot to see, a lot to enjoy in this incredible city, and try a Pisco sour before leaving
Let’s continue with Cusco; in ancient times it was a cosmopolitan city, with a select population from the four regions of the Tahuantinsuyo, the name by which this empire was called. Now Cusco remains cosmopolitan as many foreigners have decided to take up residence there for several reasons. Its climate, its people, its food, and all the beautiful areas to see in this region.
Just to start, how not to mention Machu Picchu, the world-renowned Inca citadel and one of the new wonders of the world? was an astronomical observatory, and its sacred Intihuatana stone accurately indicates the two equinoxes? Awe-inspiring, spectacular, massive, remote, mystical, there just aren’t enough adjectives to describe Machu Picchu, one of the ultimate destinations in Latin America.
We cannot fail to mention other spectacular places in the area such as the Sacred Valley of the Incas with Pisac, Maras, Moray, and Ollantaytambo in its heart and that offer a lot of experiences and memorable memories. Also, in the same town of Cusco, you will not have enough time to know each site, hidden corners, bohemian areas, archeological sites, and much more.
One could never finish mentioning all that Peru offers. One of the other musts is the colonial Arequipa, the second more important city of Peru with its deepest world canyon, the Colca. Pun, is a dreamy place with its Titicaca Lake, the biggest navigable lake in the world. Nazca is a group of geoglyphs made in the soil of the desert in southern Peru. The exuberant Amazon jungle. The amazing beaches in the north. The colonial cities of Trujillo and Chiclayo
