Program Schedule: Please note that the itinerary below is for reference only, and is subject to change based on train schedules, your physical condition, pace, and any unforeseen circumstances.

Accommodations: Our prices for two or more guests are based on double or triple occupancy per tent. If you prefer a single tent, an additional supplement of $489.00 will apply.

Train Stations and Schedules: Please be aware that train stations and schedules are subject to change based on availability. Additionally, due to rain, the Poroy train station is closed from January to the end of April each year, our friendly staff will meet and escort you from the Ollantaytambo train station. 

Walking sticks are included for your convenience, ensuring added support and comfort during your glamping adventure. Note: walking sticks are not permitted at Machu Picchu in order to preserve this iconic site.

Itinerary: Luxury Choquequirao Trail – 9 Days

Day 1 - Day 1 Cusco - Saywite - Chiquiska (L, D)

The Adventure Begins: First Steps to Choquequirao

After breakfast at your hotel in Cusco (or a boxed breakfast provided by your hotel), meet your guide for a private transfer to the starting point of the trek. Stop briefly in Curahuasi (2,688 m / 8,818 ft.) to purchase any last-minute essentials, then visit the Saywite site (3,630 m / 11,909 ft.) with its unique stone formations. Enjoy a picnic lunch at Capuliyoc (2,956 m / 2,956 ft.) before beginning your trek.

As you hike, take in the breathtaking views of the Apurimac Valley and snow-capped Padreyoc Mountain (5,771 m / 18,933 ft.). Upon arriving at the Chiquiska campsite (1,890 m / 6,200 ft.) in Apurimac Canyon, gather for the “Ofrenda a la Madre Tierra” ceremony honoring Pachamama, the Mother Earth. Relax with a hot shower, a massage and a choice of à la carte spa treatments. Enjoy a gourmet dinner prepared by our chef in the dining tent. End your evening in a cozy, heated tent under the stars.

Day 2: Day 2 Chiquiska – Choquequirao Campsite (B, L, D)

From River Banks to Ruins: A Journey Through the Heart of the Andes 

After a delicious breakfast, begin your second day by descending for an hour toward the Apurimac River, crossing the scenic Playa Rosalina (1,490 m / 4,889 ft.) via a suspension bridge. From here, begin the two-hour ascent to Santa Rosa (2,200 m / 7,218 ft.), where we’ll pause to recharge and take in the spectacular river views.

As we continue through landscapes rich in diverse flora and fauna, keep an eye out for hummingbirds flitting among the flowers, an Andean Tinamou foraging along the trail, or perhaps the majestic Andean Condor soaring overhead. Upon reaching Marampata (2,900 m / 9,514 ft.), an energizing lunch awaits, where you will dine overlooking impressive views of the lower ruins. After lunch, enjoy a leisurely stroll to our luxury Choquequirao campsite (2,900 m / 9,514 ft.). Here, treat yourself to a rejuvenating yoga session led by our expert instructors. Afterward, unwind with a hot shower and indulge in our massage and spa services, revitalizing both body and soul.

For dinner you’ll be treated to an authentic Pachamanca, a traditional Peruvian feast that dates back to pre-Inca times. This tender and flavorful meal, infused with the rich earthiness of the land and a gourmet twist, will be prepared by our expert culinary team. While you feast, our knowledgeable guide will share captivating legends passed down through generations, bringing to life the ancient beliefs of Inca Gods, mountain spirits, and the powerful forces of Pachamama (Mother Earth).

Day 3: Day 3 Choquequirao Campsite – Choquequirao – Pacchayoc– Choquequirao Campsite (B, L, D)

 A Day Uncovering Choquequirao 

 Spend an unforgettable day exploring the magnificent Choquequirao. After a decadent breakfast, enjoy a leisurely hike to the archaeological site, where you’ll be greeted by stunning rear views of Choquequirao (3,100 m / 10,171 ft.) and sweeping vistas of the surrounding mountains and river valley. With your guide, explore the various sectors of Choquequirao, including terraces, sacred temples, astronomical observatories, hydraulic channels, and more. After an in-depth tour of the site, return to the campsite for a delicious lunch before taking a short excursion to the beautiful Pacchayoc waterfall and its nearby terraces. 

Returning to the campsite, unwind with a hot shower and savor a well-deserved massage or spa treatment. Then, join our talented chef in the cooking tent to learn first hand about his methods and use of fresh, organic ingredients sourced locally from the Andes, allowing you to deepen your knowledge of Peruvian culture.

 As night falls, you’ll be invited to experience the magic of stargazing in the Peruvian Andes (weather permitting). Far from city lights, the sky comes alive with a breathtaking display of stars, constellations, and planets, with the Milky Way stretching brightly overhead. Equipped with a powerful laser pointer, your guide will lead you through the stars, planets, and cosmic marvels that adorn the night sky. (this experience must be requested at the moment of booking to ensure the availability of the specialized tour guide).

Day 4 CHOQUEQUIRAO CAMPSITE – CHOQUEQUIRAO PASS – MAIZAL (B, L, D)

A Path of Peaks and Panoramas

Embrace the beauty of your final day at Choquequirao, the mystical ‘Cradle of Gold.’ Start with an energizing breakfast before diving into a deeper exploration of the archaeological site. Uncover its secrets and reach Choquequirao Pass for a last, sweeping view of this mystical landscape. From there, descend to the lush Pincha Unuyoc terraces, taking in breathtaking scenery on a 2.5-hour hike, followed by a 2-hour trek down to Rio Blanco. Here, indulge in a vibrant lunch surrounded by exotic flora and fauna, a serene pause to refuel.

In the afternoon, begin a 3.5-hour ascent to Maizal luxury campsite. Nestled in the heart of the Andes, this exclusive spot offers not only stunning mountain vistas but also a well-deserved escape. Relax with a hot shower, indulge in soothing spa treatments, and savor a gourmet dinner beneath the stars. Drift to sleep amidst nature’s tranquility in your heated bedroom tent.

Day 5 MAIZAL – SAN JUAN PASS – YANAMA (B, L, D)

A Journey Through Andean Passes and Culture 

Begin your day with an unforgettable ascent through awe-inspiring alpine landscapes, catching a magical sunrise that illuminates the surrounding mountains in vibrant hues. Embark on a 4-hour uphill hike, passing ancient mines while taking in panoramic views of snowy peaks, lush valleys, and rugged cliffs. At the summit of San Juan Pass, celebrate your achievement with a champagne toast, taking the time to appreciate the breathtaking expanse of the Vilcabamba range.

From here, descend into the charming Yanama village for a locally-inspired lunch and a luxury camping experience. Connect with the heart of the Andes as you visit local homes, engaging with the community and immersing yourself in authentic traditions. Unwind with a spiritual yoga session surrounded by towering mountains, feeling grounded in the energy of this sacred place. End your day with pure relaxation: indulge in a hot shower, soothing massages, and a gourmet dinner beneath the Andean sky, before retiring to your cozy, private tent for a night of well-earned rest.

Day 6 YANAMA – TOTORA - COLLPAPAMPA (B, L, D)

From Alpine Heights to Tropical Havens
Today, the adventure begins with an exhilarating ascent to Mariano Llamoja Pass (4,660 m / 15,289 ft.), the highest point of your journey with unforgettable views. This 5-hour climb rewards you with panoramic vistas of the towering, snow-dusted peaks of Salkantay, Humantay, Padreyoc, and Pumasillo. Celebrate your achievement at the pass with a champagne toast and a moment to honor the beauty and magnitude of your surroundings.

Afterward, descend into the charming Totora village, where a delightful lunch awaits to refuel you for the next leg of your journey. Along the way, take advantage of the changing terrain to witness the diverse birdlife of Peru. At higher altitudes, you may be lucky enough to spot the majestic Andean Condor, while lower elevations offer opportunities to see hummingbirds and vibrant tanagers. Continuing our trek, you will pass through captivating landscapes, home to colorful orchids, bromeliads, and other exotic plant species. Arrive at Collpapampa luxury campsite, where you can unwind in comfort. Enjoy a hot shower, a soothing massage and spa treatments, and a gourmet dinner, all while gazing out at the stunning Andean scenery. Day 7 COLLPAPAMPA – PLAYA SAHUAYACO (B, L, D)

Cloud Forests, Coffee, and Cheers

Hike for 5 hours, winding through charming farming villages such as Wiñaypoco and Lluscamayo. Along the way, connect with the warmth of local communities, gaining insight into their daily lives and traditions. Arrive at the picturesque Playa Sahuayaco campsite, where a flavorful lunch will be awaiting you.

At the campsite, time to relax with a hot shower and refreshing spa treatments, a perfect way to unwind after the trek. Day 8 PLAYA SAHUAYACO - AGUAS CALIENTES (B, L, D)

Gateway to Machu Picchu: Arrival in Aguas Calientes

Summon your final energy for an unforgettable day! Rise early for a 5:00 am breakfast, fueling up for the adventure ahead. A quick 20-minute ride takes you to Lucmabamba, where you’ll begin a 3.5-hour ascent through lush forest trails. The climb leads you to the Llaqtapata archaeological site, where ancient Inca history comes alive. Take in awe-inspiring views of the iconic Machu Picchu and majestic Veronica Mountain.

Pause for a scenic lunch at the Llaqtapata Lodge Viewpoint, relishing both the flavors and the panoramic views surrounding you. Afterward, descend for 2 hours to the Hydroelectric train station, where the final leg begins. Take a 45 minute train ride, or if you’re looking to continue the trek – hike 3 hours alongside the train tracks. Enjoy the magnificent views as you weave between high, verdant cliffs and along a river, until you reach Aguas Calientes.

Upon arrival, check into your luxurious hotel and relish the comforts of your room and available amenities after the remarkable 8-day trek. Meet with your guide to finalize plans for your Machu Picchu visit, then enjoy a well-deserved, sumptuous dinner. Day 9 AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO (B, L)

At the designated time, board the shuttle bus with your guide for an unforgettable journey to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu. Accompanied by your expert guide, you’ll immerse yourself in the rich history and intriguing theories surrounding this iconic Inca citadel. Take your time soaking in the magic of this world wonder and capturing unforgettable photos. For those seeking more adventure, an optional hike up Huayna Picchu or Montaña Machu Picchu offers dramatic views from above, though this addition must be selected ahead of time.

After exploring, enjoy a satisfying lunch in one of Aguas Calientes’ finest restaurants. Later, board the Luxury Hiram Bingham Train or Vistadome train for a scenic return journey.   • Travel insurance is not included and is highly recommended. 
  • Gratuities for guides, porters, and the cooking team are not included.
