Suggestions & Restrictions

  • If you would like to have another short hike to experience Machu Picchu from a different perspective, for instance you can choose to hike Huayna Picchu Mountain for a great panoramic view and uncover different archaeological sites or climb Machu Picchu Mountain to enjoy this ancient wonder from the highest vantage point in almost complete solitude. Please take in mind that these hikes are unguided, require an additional cost and involve starting the hike at 03:00 am on the 4th day. If you are interested, please consult with your travel specialist as we need to check availability far in advance.
  • Please consider that our prices from 2 people onward are based on double and triple accommodation, if you would like to have a single tent then the supplement will be of $ 249.00 per person.
  • Train stations and train schedules are subject to availability, also due to rainy season Poroy train station is closed from January to April of each year.
  • The walking sticks are not included, but if you prefer we can arrange to provide you a pair of basic poles (Standard Brand) without any charges; you just need to ask in advance to your travel specialist.

Itinerary

Day 1CUSCO – ROSASPATA – COCHAYOQ (L, D)

Start a beautiful and different day, going up to the Andes and starting your discoveries

After a hearty breakfast at your Cusco hotel (or box breakfast), our expert guide will welcome you. Travel through the Sacred Valley with stops like Taray Viewpoint. After 1.5 hours, reach Calca (2925 m. / 9596.5 ft.), and stroll around and make some last-minute purchases. 2 hours later, you will get to the Rosaspata town (3360 m. / 11023.6 ft) and officially start our upcoming adventure.

During the 2.5 hours hike, appreciate the diverse flora and fauna, especially herds of alpacas, llamas and sheep with beautiful sceneries of the gorge as well as locals wearing their typical clothing. Later, reach the hidden Machuwasi archaeological site. Enjoy lunch in the awesome Lares Valley..

Afterwards, we will continue hiking through the gorge for another 3 hours with views of the valley. Arrive at the Cochayoq community (3880 m. /12729.7 ft.), place of the luxurious campsite. Find your convenient hot shower tent, a soothing muscle massage session, a fantastic gourmet dinner and your private luxury bedroom tent..

Day 2COCHAYOQ – TERIHUAYJASA PASS – QUELQANQA (B, L, D)

Relaxing sunrise to start the challenges, beautiful views and great rewards

It is time to enjoy another unique experience, starting with a yoga session in the Lares Valley. Later, a healthy breakfast to face the most challenging day. Climb for 2 hours appreciating the fauna of the Andes and reach the Yanacocha lagoon (4210 m. / 13812.3 ft.) After taking some photos we will continue the hike 2.5 hours towards the highest point, the Terihuayjasa Pass (4400 m. / 14435.7 ft.)

Upon arrival, be rewarded with magnificent views of the valley, the Terihuayjasa peak, gorgeous lagoons and surroundings. Join a special offering to Mother Earth Pachamama with some gifts like coca leafs, candies, chocolate and beer, wishing a safe journey. Celebrate this milestone toasting with champagne.

Restart the hike with a 1.5 hours descent towards our lunch spot near the Yuraccocha Lagoon (4130 m. / 13549.9 ft.) Recover our strength with a delicious gourmet lunch and hot beverages.

Head down for 2.5 hours to our campsite Quelqanqa (3900 m. / 12795.3 ft.) and enjoy your luxury routine of a hot shower and soothing massages. Then, is time for a gourmet dinner and then relish in your cozy bedroom tent.

Day 3QUELQANQA – AGUAS CALIENTES (B, L, D)

Different memories, Andean children’s activities, shares and experiences maximum

After having our nourishing breakfast on our campsite, we will hike a short distance towards Quelqanqa school so we can meet the children. You will participate in their activities, exchange some expressions in quechua and give them some presents like candies, fruits and school supplies to improve their creativity, knowledge and promote the education in Qelqanqa community. They will truly appreciate it as it is not usual to receive visitors.

Following our visit, it is time to take our transportation to Ollantaytambo train station making a stop at Yanamayo viewpoint (4270 mts/14009.2 ft) where we will have our delicious lunch with privileged views of Veronica Mountain (5682 mts/18641.7) being its original name Waqay Willka or The Sacred Tear. Later we will say goodbye to our trekking crew and thank them for bringing all of the outstanding quality service throughout this exciting experience. 

Upon arrival to Ollantaytambo, board our Vistadome 603 train. After a short train ride arrive at Aguas Calientes Town (2070 m. / 6791.3 ft.) and be escorted to our luxury hotel (the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is available with an extra charge.) Coordinate with your guide the pick-up time for the following day, have dinner and restful sleep.

Day 4AGUAS CALIENTES- MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO (B, L)

Day of the jewel of the trip. Our emotions are going to be at their maximum; today is the day to know one of the wonders of the world. Get ready for one of the best experiences of your life

Early in the morning, our guide will pick you up to catch the bus to the citadel for a 30 mins ride. Enter Machu Picchu (2430 m. /7972.4 ft.) and get speechless as it is a true evidence of the Incas dexterity in engineering. Your well-informed guide will teach us about the magnificent theories and stories of Machu Picchu.

Enjoy a delightful lunch at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge Hotel, take the bus departing back to Aguas Calientes, and board your train. Upon arrival, our representative will collect you in our private vehicle and take you to your hotel in Cusco.
